Mark Richard Horton was born in Abilene, Texas at Hendrick Memorial Hospital on March 24, 1954 to Ural Elmer Horton and Jean Rosalia Langworthy Horton. Mark grew up and went to school in Texas and graduated from Cooper High School in Abilene with the class of 1972. He was very active in Boy Scouts and was a member of the Order of the Arrow making Silver Star rank.

Mark was very musically talented, played guitar with his fellow Veterans in Sheridan and loved to jam with others. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles from an early age and rode his beloved Harley in recent years. He always looked forward to fishing and dreamed of having a lake home in retirement.

He studied at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. His passion was medicine and he served as a Medic in the Army Black Horse 11th Calvary Squadron Regimen during the Vietnam War Era in Germany from 1974-1979. He achieved the rank of Medical Section Sergeant and was Honorably Discharged. He received the National Defense Service Medal.

Musically, Mark was very fond of the Beatles, Jethro Tull and ZZ Top. As an avid photographer, he was rarely seen without his Pentax camera in tow.

He was later employed in the transportation industry and worked in a Supervisory capacity in the Home Construction industry.

In recent years, Mark lived in Red Oak, Texas, enjoying ranch work on the farm and tinkering in the tool shed. Mark lived his life to the fullest and was the eternal optimist. There was nothing he couldn’t fix.

Mark is survived by his Daughter, Piper Nicole Horton – Buffalo, Wyoming, his siblings: Michael Ural Horton – Alba, Texas; Michelle Jean Horton Hillery – Red Oak, Texas; and Marshall Jay Horton and his family – Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

He is survived by many Nieces and Nephews, including: Christopher Jay Horton – Ovilla, Texas; Charles Ural Horton – Grand Saline, Texas; Sean Craig Hillery – Grapevine, Texas; Natalie Roseann Crabb – Red Oak, Texas; and a Grand Niece – Adeline Rose Crabb.
