A celebration of the life of Gene Christensen, 87 year old Buffalo resident who passed away Thursday at his home north of Buffalo, surrounded by his family, will be held at a date to be announced this summer. Donations in Gene’s memory may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com

William Elmer Eugene Christensen was born on February 1, 1932 in Otto, Wyoming to Albert and Mina Christensen. He grew up and went to school in Cheyenne and graduated from Cheyenne High School with the class of 1950. He was married June 18, 1950 in Cheyenne to Nadine Wolfe and they made their home in Borie, Wyoming. In 1957 they moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming where Gene became a patrolman with the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Together they had three children, Jim, Kathy and Brenda. Gene continued working for the Wyoming Highway Patrol for the next 28 years. While with the Highway Patrol Gene was stationed in Sheridan, Rock Springs, and Laramie as a Lieutenant. They moved to Casper in 1978 where Gene was Division Captain. In 1985 they moved to Buffalo and in 1986 he retired from the highway patrol. Gene drove school bus for 20 years in Buffalo and created his own little piece of heaven at his place in Cloud Peak Ranchettes where he raised Scottish Highlander Cattle. Nadine passed away in March of 2012 and Gene continued living in Buffalo until his death.

He was a member of the Sheridan/Johnson County Pioneer Car Club where he won the “The Al Reeves Award” for outstanding restoration of a 1929 Model A Sport Coupe in 2016. He rebuilt and restored numerous antique vehicles throughout his life. He was also a member of the Wyoming Peace Officer’s Association.

Gene is survived by one son Jim Christensen and his wife Deb of Queen Creek, AZ; one daughter Brenda Faler of Buffalo; 8 grandchildren Larron (Stephanie) Dolence of Lander, Naaman (Taryn) Dolence of Montpelier, ID, Aaron Christensen of Sheridan, Brandon (Julie) Christensen of Phoenix, AZ, Leah Faler of Rock Springs, WY, Kailee (Victor) Laster of Rock Springs, WY, Evan Faler of Buffalo, WY, sister Marie (Jay) Ham and sister Louella (Ron) Penelerick of Spokane, WA, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nadine, one daughter Kathy Dolence, one brother Bob Wallace and a grandson Jaakon Dolence.
