Funeral services for Mildred Hellwig, 90 year old Sheridan resident who passed away Tuesday evening at the Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana, will be held Monday, March 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo, with Terri Foster and Kara Schuebel officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Menno Cemetery in Menno, South Dakota at a time and date to be announced. Mildred Lorraine Hellwig was born on October 6, 1928 in Menno, South Dakota to Albert and Hulda Eldeman. She grew up and went to school in Menno, South Dakota. After high school she ran the family grocery store, the Morning Star in Menno. She was married in June of 1948 to Bob Hellwig and they made their home in Sisseton, South Dakota. She was a switchboard telephone operator from 1956 to 1958. In 1967 She started a lady’s dress shop with her sister-in-law, Goldie Hellwig in Sisseton. In the mid 1980’s she moved to Oceanside, California and became a real estate broker. Bob Passed away in May of 2003 in Roseburg, Oregon and in 2016 Mildred moved to Sheridan where she lived until her death.
Over 50 years ago Millie made her choice to serve the Lord. She often stated that this choice was the best choice she has ever made, bringing her joy and peace. We loved her and she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by one son James Hellwig and his wife Stephanie of Buffalo, Wyoming; one daughter Mary Ann Miller and her husband Jim of Luverne, North Dakota; one brother Ken Edelman and two sisters, Vicki Spath, and Eileen Francis both of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Elenore Sypenowski and Darlene Peno and three brothers Harold, Gail and LaVerne Edelman.
