Obituary for Robert D. Millum

Robert D. Millum
November 18, 2017

Funeral services for Robert Millum, 61 year old Buffalo resident who passed away suddenly on November 18th at his home in Buffalo of natural causes will be held Saturday December 16th at 1:00 p.m. from the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Buffalo with The Reverend Dr. Sheila Naismith officiating. A private family interment will take place in the Sheridan Cemetery. Donations in Mr. Millum’s memory may be made to the Arts along the Bighorns or the Huntington’s Disease Society of American in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo, Wyoming 82834.
Robert Dale Millum was born on October 26, 1956 in San Diego, California to Lester and Juanita Millum, the youngest of three children. He attended Chase Avenue Elementary School, Bell Junior High, and Mt. Miguel High School where he graduated with the class of 1974. In his early teens, he lived with his brother and sister-in-law Jon and Norine Millum, and at 16 became a “lot boy” at McCune Motors, launching his career in the automotive industry. In 1976, he moved to Billings, Montana to build houses with his brother-in-law, and it was there he met and married his lifelong best friend, Jayne Booras in 1980. Rob and Jayne made their home in Billings for the next four years where Rob was in carpet sales. In 1984 they returned to San Diego and Rob re-entered the car business, running operations and serving as sales leadership for Drew Ford, 10,000 RVs, and the Costco Auto Buying Program. After he and Jayne established a second home in Buffalo, Wyoming, Rob opened his own lot there in 2013, procuring and selling used cars and new travel trailers. While the car industry was his career and the Chargers were his team, his family was his passion, beginning with his wife Jayne. He drove her crazy with his tardiness, and delighted her with his endless pursuit of helping those in need, whether another family member, a friend, or even strangers. He adored, and was adored by his 22 nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews, because he was a big kid, himself, and because he could be counted on for mentorship, support, and a reminder that life is good. Rob led by example in every facet of his life. Always enthusiastic and intellectually curious, Rob was also incredibly humble, forever putting the spotlight on others’ achievements rather than his own. He was a force for positive change, and put his leadership talents to work as a board member for both the National and San Diego boards for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, a cause that touched him when a friend’s wife became afflicted with the disease. He also served as a board member for the Buffalo, WY Carousel Center. He ran Big Horn Pedicab, cycling for donations to provide support to other Buffalo charities. He also 3 years running, rode his bi-cycle 620 miles from San Francisco to San Diego in support of the Challenged Athlete Foundation and raised over $10K each year that he participated. Despite his trim and athletic physique, which he worked hard to achieve and maintain, Robert “Rob” Millum was a big man. His deep voice was big (ask anyone who sat around him during Chargers games), his laugh was big, his hugs were big, but most importantly, his heart was big. It was enormous, in fact. Rob’s passing leaves a giant hole in the lives of those fortunate enough to be part of his family and extended family, one that may only be filled by the memory of the good he did and the echo of his deep, contagious laugh.
Rob is survived by the love of his life Jayne and his brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Norine Millum. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Sandra.
