He graduated from Clearmont High School with the class of 1959. After high school he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany and the U.S. and earned the classification of Expert Marksman. Wally was a Life Member of the NRA, and was a member of the Buffalo Gun Club. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in the mountain and shooting firearms of all kinds. His passion was spending time with his entire family and his dogs.
