John William Mueller was born on January 29, 1925 in Buffalo, Wyoming to the pioneer family of John and Linna Mueller, homesteaders who came to Johnson County in 1886. He grew up and went to school in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1943 where he was a basketball standout. After high school he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was an aviation cadet. He reported for duty in Miami Beach, Florida in August of 1943. His primary training started in Los Palos, California. His basic training was in Merced, California and advanced flight training was at Luke Field, Arizona. He received his pilot wings in March of 1945 and was appointed flight officer. After his discharge he returned to Buffalo and worked with the Wyoming Highway Department on a road survey crew for a short time. In the fall of 1946 he entered the University of Wyoming and received a B.S. Degree in Wildlife Management in June of 1950. In 1949 he married Joan Stone of Clearmont and they lived in Laramie until John graduated. After graduation from the University John went to work for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department as a fisheries biologist in Buffalo. In 1954 he was appointed area fisheries supervisor in charge of fish management in Northeast Wyoming. In 1973 John was awarded the Outstanding and Meritorious Service to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. He retired in July of 1987 after 37 years of service. Joan passed away in September of 1993 and John continued living in Buffalo until his death.
He enjoyed visiting places where his daughters were working in foreign countries. He toured Korea, Japan, Sardinia, Turkey and Germany. He also visited Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria and the Czech Republic. He also enjoyed gardening and doing counted cross stitching during the winter months, for which he won numerous ribbons at the Johnson County Fair.

Mueller of Buffalo; three daughters, Susan Williams and her husband Tom of Lubbock, Texas, Barbara Mueller of Buffalo, and Becky Ramirez and her husband Mike also of Buffalo; his longtime friend and companion Arlene Bunning; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
