Funeral services for Marilyn Carpenter, 83 year old long time Buffalo resident who passed away early Friday morning at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo, will be held Tuesday, December 10th at 10:00 a.m. from the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Pastor William Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be held from the funeral home chapel on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Donations in Marilyn's memory may be made to the Buffalo Wesleyan Church in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo.
Marilyn Lucinda Carpenter was born on October 27, 1930 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Clair and Carolyn Howard. She grew up and received her education in Iowa schools and graduated from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids. After high school she attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She later transferred to Iowa State University in Ames and also attended the Cedar Rapids Business College. She was married on March 18, 1951 in Cedar Rapids to William Carpenter and they made their home in Cedar Rapids and Belle Plaine, Iowa where she was employed by Burrows Publishing Company prior to the birth of her children. In 1964 they moved to Victor, Iowa where she and Bill owned and operated Victor Printers Inc. They retired in 1989 and moved to LaFeria, Texas where they lived until December of 1990 when they moved to Buffalo, Wyoming. In 2000 they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they lived until 2003 when they moved back to Buffalo and lived until the time of her death.
Marilyn was a member of Buffalo Christian Women's Club, the Jolly Janes Homemakers of Buffalo and she attended the Buffalo Wesleyan Church. She was also a past member of the Victor Baptist Church in Victor, Iowa. She also enjoyed activities at the Buffalo Senior Center. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting and crafts.
She is survived by her husband Bill Carpenter of Buffalo; a set of twins, Bradley Carpenter and his wife Gay of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Barbara Wohlbrandt and her husband Duane of Buffalo; one brother Stephen Howard and his wife Jan of Cass Lake, Minnesota; one sister Betsy Danielson of Ellsworth, Iowa and two grandchildren, Jill Ford of Marion Iowa and Jacy Buck and her husband Wade also of Marion, Iowa.
