Obituary for Warren Duane Atter

Funeral services for Warren Atter, 94-year-old long time Buffalo resident who passed away early Wednesday morning at the Johnson County Health Care Center, will be held Saturday, March 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Reverend Dr. Bob Miller officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with the American Legion and VFW in charge of military graveside services. Donations in Warren’s memory may be made to the Kalif Horse Patrol in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com
Warren Duane Atter was born on June 7, 1923 in North Dakota to Lee and Eugenia Atter. He grew up and went to school in North Dakota. After high school he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served during WWII as a tail gunner in a B29 and was stationed in Saipan. After the war he moved to Minneapolis where he sold hardware for Janey-Simple-Hill Co. He was married on June 7, 1947 in Minneapolis to Geraldine Kirkland and they made their home in Minneapolis. In 1948 Warren and Jerry moved to Sheridan, Wyoming and Warren traveled and continued selling hardware. In 1957 they moved to Buffalo and bought the Buffalo Furniture Mart, renaming it Atter’s Buffalo Furniture Mart. They continued operating Atter’s Furniture until retiring in 2008. Jerry passed away in May of 2013 and Warren continued living in Buffalo until his death. Warren was a longtime member of the Kalif Horse Patrol and rode in numerous parades and functions. He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW. He loved baseball and spent many years coaching in Buffalo. Warren was a work-a-holic and loved spending time on their ranch.
He is survived by two sons, Cole Atter and his wife Vicki and Kirk Atter all of Buffalo; one daughter Darcy of Sheridan; one sister Toni Lewis of Lakeport, California; eight grandchildren, John Atter, Chasta Taylor, Travis Atter, Tell Atter, Brady Campbell, Cory Campbell, Branden Denis and Cass Denis; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers and one infant granddaughter, Toni Colette Atter.
