Obituary for LaVerne A. Short

Funeral services for LaVerne Short, 85 year old Buffalo resident who passed away peacefully Tuesday at her home in Buffalo will be held Monday, August 20th at 10:00 a.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Father Pete Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside services to follow the funeral. Donations in Mrs. Short’s memory may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter or the Veteran’s Home of Wyoming in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. LaVerne Ann Short was born on March 24, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Edward and Alice Kalisek. She grew up and went to school in Pittsburgh where she graduated from high school. After high school she went to work for Pittsburgh Plate Glass where she worked for several years. She married the love of her life Bill Short on August 30, 1951 in Emsworth, Pennsylvania. LaVerne was a stay at home mom until her kids were in school and in 1967 she went into banking. Bill and LaVerne lived in various states and she retired as Vice President of the First Marine Bank in Palm Beach, Florida. LaVerne retired in 1996 and in 2005 they moved to Buffalo, Wyoming to be near family. Bill passed away in October of 2013 and LaVerne continued living in Buffalo until her death.
She enjoyed many crafts and was a master seamstress and her knitting was flawless. She was a volunteer at the Veterans Home of Wyoming and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Her passion was her family and she never missed any of her grand kid’s school events.
She is survived by two sons, Biff Short and his wife Tracey of Buffalo and Jon Short and his wife Donna of St. Johns, Florida; two daughters, Linda Arnold of Watervliet, New York and Tracy Furey and her husband Ed of Orlando, Florida; eleven grandchildren, Shelly, Chad, Johanna, Heather, Lauren, Mark, Diana, Jon, Alyssa, Tyler, and Paige; fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two sisters.
