June Shambaugh was born February 1, 1921 in Buffalo, Wyoming, to Edward and Fannie (Winingar) Lytle, the fifth of seven children. She grew up and went to school in Buffalo and attended Johnson County High School. She was a patient at the Shriner’s Children Hospital in Minneapolis for extended periods of time at a very young age and attributed her ability to walk through their surgical skills and treatments.

June was married to Allen Edward Shambaugh at the home of her parents on February 1, 1938, and they made their home on the Shambaugh Ranch on Bull Creek. They later lived in Sheridan, and Cheyenne, during WWII, returning to the ranch south of Buffalo in 1943. She was a stay at home mom until the last of her six children entered school. She was a Candy Striper and nurse’s aide for several years at Johnson County Hospital, later working in the surgical central supply office before retiring in the early 1970’s. She opened the Rockbottom Country Store in 1984, buying and selling antiques and collectables. She closed the store in September 2006. Allen passed away in January of 2000, and June continued to live in Buffalo until her death.

She was an active member of the Johnson County Democratic Committee for several years and held several offices in the Klondike Grange, Wyoming State Grange, and national grange organizations. She was a past member of the Buffalo Garden Club, Clear Creek Homemakers, and Johnson/Sheridan Pioneer Association, and several other interest groups.

She is survived by her children, Dennis Shambaugh and his wife Lolena of Casper, Wyoming; Bonny Galloway of Green Valley, Arizona; Ruth Atkinson and her husband Don also of Casper; James Shambaugh and his wife Sue of Buffalo; and Carol Herman also of Buffalo; Eighteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren, and six great great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, four brothers, one son, Edward, in 1992, and one great-grandson Dalton Martin, in 1995.
